Kuruksetra
- The Great Mahabharata War
(An Animated Feature Film)
The
greatest legend of all time was a true
story. This is the story of the honor and
bravery of the greatest men and women in
the history of the ancient world, the story
of Kuruksetra, as recorded in the epic Mahabharata.
In
a land ruled by a blind King (Dhritarasthra),
100 sons of Kuru, driven by the greed of
one man (Duryodhana), deceived and usurped
the throne of the 5 princes (Arjuna, Yudhisthira,
Bhima, Sahadeva, and Nakula) of Pandu and
drove them (with their Queen Mother Kunti,
and wife Draupadi) into exile.
When
diplomacy and reason failed, the rightful
heirs returned to claim their throne on the
field of battle. To make the wrong things
right, in eighteen days of brutal combat,
the largest armies ever arrayed or since assembled
fought to the last man to find out whom shall
rule the world. All the sons of Dhritarasthra
and the warriors who fought with them were
prepared to die for the greed of one man.
No warrior, ever so great he may be, would
escape his fate in the relentless onslaught
at Kuruksetra.
In
the field of battle where dishonor was
worse than death, where there assembled the
worlds greatest warriors with supernatural
skills and no fear, all fought bravely. Only
one man (Asvatthama) would disgrace his name
forever, for the merciless act of killing
the sleeping sons of Draupadi.
In a desperate fight, surrounded and out numbered
by champions of war, the son of Arjuna (Abhimanyu)
fell to his death on the field of glory.
On a mission of revenge, so great that no
army could stand against him, an aggrieved
father brought the Angel of Death to his
enemies, one and all.
In
the greatest battle of the ancient world
friend fought against friend and blood
relative fought against blood relative
until in the end only 5 heroic warriors
remained to claim the victory.
Counseled by the wise and all knowing Krishna,
Arjuna found the strength to defy an Empire,
and the courage to lead his brothers into
battle in the fight for justice and freedom.
The price to be paid in human lives was too
great to imagine.
Both
young and old died in the struggle and
the grief of battle spared no one. Against
insurmountable odds the 5 princes of
Pandu, heroes of the
Mahabharata,
claimed a great victory only to inherit
a kingdom bereft of family and friends,
a tragedy so great that the world has
since never known.
